How to manage site storage limits in SharePoint in Microsoft 365

SharePoint is a powerful collaboration platform that can be used to store and manage documents, files, and other content. However, the amount of storage space that is available to your organization is limited by the number of licenses that you have purchased. If you are running out of storage space, you can add more storage to your subscription by following the steps below.

To add more storage to your SharePoint subscription, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Admin center in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
  2. Select Billing.
  3. In the Billing page, select Subscriptions.
  4. Select the subscription that you want to add storage to.
  5. In the Storage section, select Manage storage.
  6. In the Storage page, select Add storage.
  7. In the Add storage dialog box, enter the amount of storage that you want to add.
  8. Select Add storage.

SharePoint will add the additional storage to your subscription.

To view the total and available storage space for your organization, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Active sites page in the SharePoint admin center.
  2. In the upper right corner of the page, you will see the total amount of storage space that is available to your organization and the amount of storage space that is currently being used.

If you are concerned about running out of storage space, you can take steps to reduce your storage usage. For example, you can delete files that you no longer need, or you can move files to a different storage location.

Here are some tips for managing site storage limits in SharePoint in Microsoft 365:

  • Regularly review your storage usage. This will help you to identify any areas where you can reduce your storage usage.
  • Delete files that you no longer need. This is the simplest way to free up storage space.
  • Move files to a different storage location. If you have files that you don't need to access frequently, you can move them to a different storage location, such as a cloud storage service.
  • Compress files. Compressing files can help to reduce the amount of storage space that they take up.
  • Use storage quotas. You can set storage quotas for individual sites or for users. This will help to prevent users from storing too much data in SharePoint.

By following these tips, you can help to manage your site storage limits in SharePoint in Microsoft 365 and avoid running out of storage space.
